I can not get any files from bitshrine, I always get a 403 not authed
error. For example,

http://www.bitshrine.org/gpp/linux-2.6.27.8.tar.bz2

Is there something wrong with my network, or is the error on the server?

Thanks!

Yes, I'd say so. I'm able to access linux-2.6.27.8.tar.bz2:

Hi,

I get the same error if I use a browser. But like Peter, with wget I can
download it. No clue why though.

Pete

The server is checking the user agent. Slight attempt to avert buggy
mirroring systems and browsers that wreak havoc on ISP bills.

Stuart, what is total size of the gpp? Average monthly traffic?

Hi Mike,

The reason for this is to try to limit the damage done by some scripts
that seem to go haywire continuously downloading the same file over and
over. I have on a number of occasions in the past had the account
suspended by the ISP due to what I think are bad scripts stuck in a loop.

Access to the GPP is limited to certain user agents and also to a
certain bandwidth within a given time. So long as people atr using LTIB
to build something they should have no problems.

Regards, Stuart

Hi Stuart,

I did some testing with Wireshark. If I try to get a package via ltib, I
get a 403 response. If I try to get a package via wget, it works fine. Is
there a way to change my ltib user agent to match wget?

Thanks,
Dave Kaplan

Hi David,

What version of ltib to you have? it should send the right header for
User-Agent (Wget/...) ?

Can you send the output of: /opt/ltib/usr/bin/wget -d -O /dev/null
http://ltib.org

Mine shows:

$ /opt/ltib/usr/bin/wget -d -O /dev/null http://ltib.org
Setting --output-document (outputdocument) to /dev/null
DEBUG output created by Wget 1.14 on linux-gnu.
